The power went out one evening, which is not that uncommon around here. I did not think much of it until I realized how hard the wind was suddenly blowing. I went outside and found this tree near the shop hanging on the power lines and on fire at the top. The house in the background is vacant along with all of the other houses nearby. I called the fire department, but they could not do anything because some of the lines were still “hot.” They called the electric company. About 10 minutes later the tree broke more and parted the remaining power line. Half of the power company were down in South Texas helping clean up from the earlier Hurricane, and there were apparently many lines down from this sudden, but short lived wind storm. The power company eventually made it out and fixed the problem. I thought oak trees were supposed to be stronger than this.
